Tesco GI Diet

Read my personal review of this dieting book which will really change your life.

I have lost weight with this great book Paul McKenna's book I can make you slim.
New revised edition!

I haven't been hungry since I started this diet and there is no weighing, measuring or special foods to eat.

Very easy to follow - you can eat ALL your favourite foods!

I personally recommend you buy this book.
It has changed the way I look at food and dieting! You will find it easier than ever before to diet - and it won't seem like dieting as you're allowed all the foods you like!

Eat vegetarian - can it make you thin?

We all need to eat more fruit and vegetables. America and France recommend 9 and 10 portions of fruit and vegetables every day. How do you do this if you're planning on eating a "normal" diet?

If you're planning on eating a bowl of cereal, a sandwich, a cooked meal and snacks you're going to have to do a bit of jigging about to get the fruit and vegetables included as well as making sure you eat wholegrain foods too.

would being vegetarian help? If you're a healthy vegetarian eating a diet rich in veggies, fruit and nuts then you'll probably not have a weight problem. However if you eat lots of fried foods, nuts, cheese, and not so much veggies then you'll have to be careful not to put weight on.

Compare the meat and veg calories per 100g. Its easy to see why cutting out meat could save tou loads of calories.

Whether you stay within a strict vegetarian diet or just include a few vegetarian main meals to replace meat centred meals then you'll be increasing the veg count.

Changing meals -

Breakfast is one of the easiest meals to make totally vegetarian. Even a cooked breakfast can be veggy. Eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried bread (I'm not keen!) veggie sausages and even veggie bacon. Loads of hot toast and you're away.

The weetabix week ads on tv are trying to promote the addition of fruit (and other stuff) to your morning weetabix. This is a good idea to start off your day by eating a portion or two of fruit. You can add sliced fruits such as apple, strawberries, berries, bananas, whatever your favourites are. You can also add raisons, sultanas or other dried fruits. Use yoghurt instead of milk too.

Lunch - sandwiches always seem tricky once you remove meat - but you can have salads, dips, cheese, mixed salads, cous cous, anything you can pack into a lunch box!

Think how you can add more veg to your meals to replace meat. Lasagne is easy - replace the mince with lots of different vegetables.

Why should you stop eating meat? Meat provides protein - but this can be be gotten from cheese, eggs and beans and pulses.
Meat has lots of saturated fat and this is something you need to cut down on.

The vegetarian society recommends this list of what You Should Eat Every Day on a Vegetarian Diet:

3 or 4 servings of cereals/grains or potatoes
4 or 5 servings of fruit and vegetables
2 or 3 servings of pulses, nuts & seeds
2 servings of milk, cheese, eggs or soya products
A small amount of vegetable oil and margarine or butter.
Some yeast extract such as Marmite, fortified with vitamin B12.

You should also mention to your GP (No need for a special visit though) that you're vegetarian.

A varied and healthy balanced diet should provide all the stuff you need
