Food swapping hints
When you're having a ready made sandwich check to see if they have
low calorie versions available. If they don't then suggest it!
Check out low calorie mayonaise when doing the shopping. It will allow
you more mayo for your calories!
Try sugar free sugar! Some people find it has a bitter taste though
(If you don't like diet drinks cos they're "sour" then you might not
like fake sugar)
Always check the calories on diet versions of products (Sometimes
its a very small difference - so they've replaced the suagr/fat with
somethign else.... so if you're couting calories and not fat then the
slightly lower calorie might not be worth the additional cost. However
if you're trying to reduce fat or sugar instake read and compare that
bit of the label.
Make your own coleslaw at home - you'll control the mayonaise (and
you can vary the veggies too)
Rather than frying food read the instructions and see if you can grill
it instead.
Swap chips for jacket potatoes.
Swap fried egg for poached egg
Swap tinned fruit in syrup for fruit in juice.
Swap a big fast food burger for a small one
Swap large fries for small
Swap a milkshake for a diet drink or a water or even juice!
Swap a restaurant meal heavy in fat for one served with salad
Avoid cheese sauces unless you've made it yourself and know how
little fat you've put in it.
Try buying mini-chocolate bars - they're easier to divide up without
feeling like you have to eat a whole huge bar. It'll be healthier
for the kids too!
